Tim,

Went back through the posts and answered my own question..... Early May was so long ago, and I must have had a JR Senior Moment!!!

My last month has been hectic, and you had your vacation so I guess I forgot about your 2x3 aquisition. Sorry.

Just wanted to wish all of you a Great 4th of July! Sorry I have not been active lately.........have had a busy and wonderfull week. I put my 04 F150 in the shop at the dealer (under warranty) and wile waiting for my dealer supplied rent car I started drooling over the retro looking 06 Mustangs........wanting something smaller and more fuel efficient to drive on days that I did not need the truck........well....dealer made me an offer I could not turn down....so.....I took home a black 5 speed. Man is this thing cool! Has Fords audiofile 500 watt "Kicker" stereo system in it. On Tuesday morning the dealer called and said that they were having a few problems figuring out what was wrong with my pickup and since I was not using the rent car, would I please bring back the keys....so after work I went back to the dealer only to find out that they changed out the throttle body and the intake manifold (it had a micro size crack in it) and the fool working on it failed to hook up the high pressure fuel line correctly and set the engine on fire!
They gave me all the equity that I had in it and came home with a new 06 F150 also. All within 2 days...... and because of the rebates and 0 % financing the 2 payments are only slightly higher than my one payment was on the 04! Then on Thursday I met my older sisters best friend who is my age and I invited her to fly with me up to a fly-in diner (T67 Hicks Field) for breakfast sunday morning (yesterday). On the way back I let her fly the plane after taking off and trimming the plane out at 2000 feet. In my 400+ hours of flying I have never had anybody sit in the right seat and be able to hold altitude and course better than she did!    She's a natural pilot! I still have goose bumps! Well.....date #2 is comming up on the 4th..  .......................I just might have found a co-pilot!   What a wonderfull week!!
Happy 4th every one!       Tim

Tim,

Happy fouth to you as well, it sounds like yous is going much happier!!!!! Good, you deserve it!!! It was quiet on your side, so we figured you had stuff going on. I am glad that it is the happy stuff and not the less happy stuff like the previous wannabe co pilot (EX) or a bunch of work!

That retro mustang is really cool looking.... What engine is in it? I bet it flys nearly as good as your Cessna, just on the ground though.... Don't try to go all Dukes of Hazzard on us! HA HA HA

Have fun, and don't forget to watch the fireworks too!

Need Help with a Mikohn sign that won't communicate
« Reply #632 on: September 07, 2006, 06:35:30 AM »

Hi
Im new, Im not a Slot Tech, Im an IT person.
My name is Mari and I work on a RiverBoat casino in Iowa.     I have been given Two Mikohn signs that at one time were used for Progressives. We are now using them for just messages. The signs have been turned off for a while, Due to change in Management.   Yesturday I turned one back on and  Configured it so that it was not in the C9 error.
I then tried to download my message and recieved an error that reads.

Default Error Check controller #1
Communications Error Terminated

I really have no Idea what I am doing and I followed the directions in the manual.
We inherited the cable to connect the PC and Sign but it is pretty knarled up.
Also if any one has a Picture for reference for the wireing of such a cord we could really use it.

Like I said I really have no Idea what I am doing.   But would really Appreciate any help in this.
This is a really cool new Project for me and I am really looking forward to learning all I can about these signs.

Thanks
Mari

What sign/controller combo do you have?  If you can't tell, you can post pictures and we'll be able to identify it and guide you.

These are the Pictures that I have I know That it is a Mark 2 logic board and that it is very old. We bought these in 1993 and they worked fine up until a year ago

By the look of the logic board, you have some Cham2 display controllers.  To the best of my knowledge these need to be attached to a con2 in order for them to display messages.  If you get a Supreme controller, you should be able to just display messages on your displays.  One of our other moderators Idesign is doing just that.

First off, like Rick said, you have a CHAMII so it can not be used as a stand alone message board that way.  The CHAMII requires a CON2 to communicate with it.  All the CHAMII can be used for is a display driver, it's basically dumb.

Those LED displays you have can not be used with a Supreme either because they are specifically for the CHAMII.   Since you work in a casino, my advice is to find a spare CON2 somewhere and use that with what you have.

I stand corrected on the Supreme controller issue.  I believed the chamII displays were compatible, but I was incorrect.

Actually, those LED displays are marked LED4 but they have CHAMII piggy back boards on them.  This is interesting in that if the piggy back boards could be swapped out to the correct type, they could be used with a CON1.

By implication of that statement - I could change out my piggy backboards and perhaps use my signage without major re-investment against a CON2 - interesting.

Guys - since he is just using them for display purposes - not progressive, could he not just use a ChamII+ standalone controller to drive this ?
Then he could use the download 2.0 software to upload the PDF backgrounds and PSP for the messaging ?

Jay, I don't think that will work.  The CHAMII+ can't be configured for a 2 X 3 unless there is some firmware out there to do this.  So, it will only display on the first  2" X 15" section of the display unless the firmware is changed.  That's why the CHAMII firmware is set for 2 X 3 so it matches up with the size of his LED display.

Hi,

I've received my ChamII+ with piggyback display.

The power supply is broken and after a few days thinking, I suspect that I can use a standard PC ATX power supply. Can anyone tell me if this is a bad idea?

Before I can do this I need to know the answer to a few questions:

!) On the ChamII+ board the power is supplied to J1, 12vdc to one pin and ground to the other, can anyone tell me which pin is number 1?

2) Same as question one, but this time for J4 on the piggyback board part no. 341-010-30, which in turn is plugged into part no. 341-010-10

3) What voltage should I apply to J4 in question two above?

I really hope someone can help me.

I look forward to any replies.

Cheers

Paul

Pin 1 is ground, Pin 2 is +12VDC  Pin 1 is toward the components, pin 2 is toward the edge of the board.

On the piggyback board, it's +5VDC, the ground is toward the side with the connector and Power is to the side where the red LED is.

I hope that makes sense.

And yes, An IBM type power supply is an okay substitute since the Display uses higher current +5 than it does +12.  If you use an ATX, remember you will have to locate the power on wire and jumper it to make the power supply turn on all the time.  An older AT, if you can find it, would be a better choice for this reason - but they are getting harder to find without paying through the nose.  The smaller generic ATX's are down to $5 at the computer surplus swaps - brand new in the bag.

Since there is no load on the +5 when the display is first powered up, it is possible the power supply might shut down (over shoot it's target voltage of +5V) without some other load on it.  You will have to experiment and try.  I use the smaller screw terminal type switching power supplies used by the Video Game industry but they tend to "Sing" with the high speed on's and off's of the scanning LED dot matrix.

Rick and CJ,

Many thanks, Rick that make perfect sense and Cactus thank you for the confirmation that the PS would work.

I've plugged it all in and the display works a treat.

The downside is that it shows me the following three errors in the different colours:

C2 (Green)
C10 (Red)
C14 (Red)

Now the questions:
1) Is C2 in green good or bad? If bad do I fix it with PSP?
2) C14 do you guys (or anyone else for that matter) know what this is and how to fix it, I can't find it in the manual?

I've just read a reply somewhere else for the same problem (RED C14), it suggests this may be something to do with Jackpot group and too make sure that it is set to SA. Mine is set to SA already so I guess it can't be that.

**UPDATE** Just read another reply, looks like this is the M04/M08 setting in PSP

C10 is the easy one, well I hope it is once I've made my cable with pins 1 and 5 jumpered

Thanks again for getting me this far.

C2 =  your dispaly is too small to show the current jackpot amount residing in memory.  Check your display size, if you have a 12 x 5 cell chameleon, then your display size should be 60.
C14 = The Jackpot amount residining is greater than the limit set by the program.

All these errors will be cleared once you setup the progressive correctly.

Additionally, all those errors probably occured because of a dead battery.  With the power off, check the voltage across the coin battery and make sure its at least 3.00VDC (a good or new battery will be a bit higher - like 3.15V).

With a bad battery any settings you make will be lost with the next power down.  Not a problem if you leave your progressive powered 24/7.

Does anyone have a CON2I (not the Stand Alone version)?  I have a few questions concerning the on board eproms.   The board that I have has a 512K eprom version 4.01.  There are 2 slots for eproms and one is empty.  There is also a couple of jumpers on the board for using 1meg eproms and 2 eproms instead of 1.  I need more info about these options.  The manual I have says nothing about this.

I am also looking for a schematic of the CON2I.

Running A cham2+ configured for  STA   the chip is an older version STA /v. 1.41  and I find myself going Thur various M and MS setting
and no matter what machine type (M) setting I use I can not use (MS) 1,10,11,12 I get A c-17 error not supported.

As I look at the MS breakdown I'm starting to believe that is the way it goes until you hook up A con or something or is my version 1.41 just to old

                                                                     opinions always appreciated         Anthony

If its STA then a CON is not required.
